Help us bring this Syrian family to Canada
Update on the family. We are excited to share the achievements we have made in the last two years. With a budget of 38K required upon the family's arrival to fully support them for the first year, 80% of that total had to be raised to submit their applications. Despite two years of Covid and shut downs, the applications were submitted November 2022 and the balance raised by the new year. Read more about the work that has gone into this success and who has contributed.

There are 36 million registered refugees around the world. Thinking globally and acting locally, our group, the Ayash3 Refugee Sponsorship Group is working to solve the world’s refugee crisis—one family at a time.
We invite you to join our Sponsorship Group of Ladysmith, BC residents, and accept the challenge with us of bringing one more family from Syria to reunite with two families who arrived earlier. Approximately 30,000 Government Sponsored Syrians refugees, torn apart by conflict in their country, arrived in Canada in 2016, fleeing violence and economic deprivation.
The Family
Omar and his family have been refugees living in Jordan for many years. The family fled from Syria, but opportunities for work as refugees are limited. There is no path to citizenship in Jordan. Returning to Syria is not an option, and there are many difficulties with living in Jordan.
Although the family can maintain its refugee status and receive basic education free of charge, the cost of higher education is extremely high. Food and other necessities are very expensive, and wages are low. Obtaining loans is virtually impossible.
”It’s important that my cousin and his family are able to move here and be with us. It would make our family complete once more.
We would support each other and make everyone happy.”
~ Anas
Omar and his family want to reconnect with two families related to them and now living in Nanaimo. Anas, Omar’s cousin, and Ammar, Omar’s brother, have joined together with the Ayash3 Group to sponsor Omar and his family. Families with extended families nearby have been shown to have a better success rate in adapting to their new home.

Overview of Ways to Help
Sponsorship Agreement Holder
The Ayash3 Refugee Sponsorship Group operates under the auspices of the Anglican Diocese Refugee Program (North Island), the Sponsorship Agreement Holder contracted with the Canadian government to take responsibility for local local sponsorship groups. The Church has kindly agreed to give our project one of the Sponsorship spots the Government of Canada has allotted to them. The North Island Anglican Church will file the application on our behalf and offer support and guidance as needed.
Government of Canada
The Government of Canada has signed sponsorship agreements with organizations that help refugees, as designated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, to resettle in Canada. These organizations are called “Sponsorship Agreement Holders.” The Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) Program of the Canadian government allows private groups to sponsor eligible refugees abroad.
