The New Family: Omar and His Wife and Three Children
Omar and his family have been refugees living in Jordan for many years. The family fled from Syria, but opportunities for work as refugees are limited. There is no path to citizenship in Jordan. Omar is an accountant. His wife teaches mathematics. They hope to find positions in their fields. They have two boys ages 12 and 13, and a six-year-old girl who is in her first year of school. They are looking forward to joining with family members in Nanaimo and building a new life for themselves.
Anas and His Family
Six years ago Anas, with his wife and children, came to Nanaimo, BC, in 2016, as part of the surge of Syrian refugees brought here by the Canadian government. They found accommodations and settled into life in Nanaimo. Both parents have been studying English and are going to University preparing for the Canadian workforce, while their children attend public school. Anas has been working while going to school. They and their children have all recently become Canadian citizens. Some members of our sponsorship group met them in 2016, and have maintained a connection with the family since that time.
Ammar and His Family
Two years ago, in 2020, Ammar and his family also settled successfully in Nanaimo with the help of another sponsorship group. Ammar works in food preparation at a company in Nanaimo. He and his wife have two daughters and one son. They look forward to having his brother close by, so their children will know their uncle and cousins.
